Andy Roderique wins the 21st Zigfield Troy Open

Andy Roderique mastered high winds on the weekend of July 27-28 to capture the 2002 Zigfield Troy Open at the Zigfield Troy Par 3 golf course in Woodridge, IL. Roderique, a 2002 graduate of Lewis University, where he played on the golf team and earned Academic All-American honors, won the event with a 36 hole total of one-under par 107. Lewis golf coach Dennis Troy proudly presented the traditional Zigfield Troy straw hat at the winner’s ceremony.

Roderique didn’t have the luxury of playing Saturday morning when the winds were negligible. Instead, he and last year’s champion Dave Lee played late in the afternoon when the winds were at their highest. Both golfers controlled their shots for co-leading three-under par scores of 51. Sunday however, was different as most holes were playing longer and the wind was a notch stronger. Roderique scored a steady two-over par 56 to Lee’s four-over par 58 for the win.

82 golfers competed in the event. Other division winners were Alysen Troy (122-Women’s), Bob Bradley (122-Senior), David L. Griffins (121-Super Senior) and Erik Restificar (121-High School).
