Jason Buffone wins 29th Zigfield Troy Open

One could not notice the numerous repeating themes that took place at the Zigfield Troy Open over the weekend of July 17 and 18 in Woodridge, IL. For it was the second consecutive year that a Lewis University graduate won the event and the third consecutive with a winning score of 104. Jason Buffone of Lockport, IL won this year’s event on the first hole of sudden-death over Sumeet Arora, who lost for the third time in a ZTO sudden-death playoff.

Certainly, it was the cruelest repeating theme of them all for Arora, but credit must be given to Buffone, who birdied the final hole in regulation to send the tournament into sudden-death. On the first extra hole, Buffone was first to tee-off, hitting his ball over the green and almost into the water hazard. But Arora’s tee shot landed on the green and bounded off the back. Then, Buffone tenderly flopped a shot to within six feet of the hole and Arora chipped ten feet beyond the hole. Arora missed his putt and Buffone made his, to become the 29th ZTO Champion.

Other division winners this year included: Helene Ault, Downers Grove 135 (Womens), Ken Zilka, Naperville 116 (Seniors), Jim Bailey, Hinsdale119 (Super Seniors), and Eric Lederman, Downers Grove 114 (High School)
