Larry Brady wins the 23rd Zigfield Troy Open

Larry Brady and Dennis Troy

He had been a high finisher in many ZTO’s, but this year Larry Brady, of Barrington, IL, took the championship in a sudden-death playoff from last year’s runner-up, Sumeet Arora.  Weather conditions were perfect the weekend of July 17 and 18, which yielded better scoring from the leaders.  Brady (-2, 52) and 3 other golfers including Arora, the first-day leader (-3, 51), finished Saturday with under par scores.

But the Par 3 golf course yielded fewer good scores on Sunday.  Arora’s double-bogey on the 15th hole seemed to give the championship to Brady, but Sumeet finished par-birdie-birdie to tie him at 1-over par 109 for the championship.  Then, Brady drained an 8 foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to win the customary Zigfield Troy straw hat.  It was the second straight year that Arora lost the championship in a playoff.

Other division winners this year included: Alysen Troy – 119 (Women), David Henry – 116 (Senior), David Griffins – 120 (Super Senior) and Kyle Grassel – 124 (High School).
