Tim Cordes wins 26th Zigfield Troy Open

Tim Troy, 2007 ZTO Champion Tim Cordes, and Dennis Troy

Tim Cordes of Batavia, IL made two putts when they counted the most, ultimately winning the Zigfield Troy Open the weekend of July 7 and 8. Both Cordes and 2006 winner Josh Butterfield of Aurora were tied for the lead after Saturday’s round with a one under par 53. High winds and a tougher set-up on the Woodridge, IL Par 3 course made scoring tougher on Sunday. No one shot under par on the final day, but Cordes and Butterfield managed to play at even par 54, finishing regulation play at one under par 107 for the 36-hole event. Cordes made an eight foot birdie putt on the final hole to tie Butterfield and force a sudden-death playoff. Both managed to par the first and bogey the second hole, but Cordes made another eight foot birdie putt on the third sudden-death hole to capture the championship and traditional Zigfield Troy straw hat.

Other division winners included: Courtney Kellogg, Des Plaines 124 (Women), Aldo Buffone, Schererville, IN 116 (Senior Men), Angelo Barbaccia, Lisle 121 (Super Senior Men) and Ryan Grassel, Chesterton, IN 117 (High School).
